I'm Alex, and that's Lola.
Once upon a time I was a lab technician, then a technologist, then a quality controller, then an engineer, then a different kind of lab technician, then a procurement administrator.
Basically I didn't know what I wanted to do, but I knew that to do well in life you had to collect a long list of obscure boring job titles that look clever on a cv, right?
Well like your average lazy millennial I didn't even make it to 30 before completely burning out, turning into the shape of my office chair to appease the tech gods. I bailed, and became a gym instructor because that looked really cool and I could lift weights and live in trakkies all day and get protein shake sponsorships, or something.
And while that was a fun life, I was never exactly Joe Wicks, my era of shoulder length hair notwithstanding, I wasn't really into shouting at my clients about omelettes and dancing around at 6am with the boxing pads. So I wondered what it was I was really seeking in this health and fitness life.
And the answer was pretty simple. I wanted to help people, but not by helping them maybe shed a few pounds, I wanted to do something more meaningful, more profound than that.
I wanted to help people get rid of those aches and pains that never seem to go away, the ones where people just suck it up and accept a life of mild, or sometimes extreme, misery.
The upper back pains I had all those years ago, where it seemed like sitting at a desk all day had no right to be as exhausting as it was, yet somehow I was cream crackered? It must just be me, I must be really pathetic to not want to get up and so stuff after work right? Even getting on the floor to play with the dog gave a sense of dread because who knows when we're getting back up again!
And yet I hear a similar story from so many people, this seemingly unbreakable connection between aches and pains from working so hard, and then having no sense of joy at the end of it to get up and do anything.
THAT is what I wanted to fix.
You may or may not love your day job, but no salary deserves to take away your mojo, your family time, your sleep, or your mental health.
"but isn't a massage just like a nice rub at a spa? or do you mean you do the sports thing where they just elbow you?"
Well yes and no. Massage and manual therapy have so many themes and methodologies across the spectrum. And while I love and respect almost all of them, I will never stubbornly hold to a 'one size fits all' approach.
I went through too many treatments at such extremes, from physios handing over some photocopied homework stretches, to a sports massage that left me feeling like the wet shivering puppy in the RSPCA advert.
The more I learned, the more I realised how many of these methodologies tie in together, and how on some level they all work! Just not for the reasons many of them might claim. All you need to be assured by is that I'll be doing my utmost to build a treatment for YOU, and not just parroting the sequence given out at college. And I'll do it without telling you it's about 'removing the knot toxins in your blood before the next full moon'
I keep a relaxed home based setting, some chilled music, a comfy table, and a perpetually honest approach.
If you feel like you've had enough of spa visits and trips to the GP, your spouse is thinking of leaving because of all the moaning, and you're thinking about buying stocks in Ibuprofen, lets have a chat.
We'll get you sorted.
Why should you want to work with me? I’ve experienced what you have, that combination of burnout and physical pain, an unplaceable feeling where you feel like you don’t have the right to be as exhausted as you are.
But I’ve also come out the other side, helped myself, and helped others remove the pain, restore their mental energy and begin again while able to handle the daily stresses.
Communication is key. It's great to know what you're feeling. I prefer to work with the nervous system and not against it.
As we build your perfect massage, we can talk about anything you might feel the need to release in a completely safe environment, chat about the weather, Jiujitsu and saxophones, or work without words while you drift

As we build your perfect massage, we can talk about anything you might feel the need to release in a completely safe environment, chat about the weather, Jiujitsu and saxophones, or work without words while you drift off knowing you've taken an amazing step towards your own wellbeing.
Massage is a tool to help heal.
To take you from stressed, uncomfortable in your own body, and exhausted, to refreshed, physically confident, and to a knowledge that you're on the right path.
Take up that sport you lost years ago, play on the floor with the kids without worrying about getting up again. Open a world of physical ambition.
